Poem on happiness

Secret to life

Do you want to know?
Do you dare to care?

Just listen to my flow.
And the words I bare.

The secret to life.
Is not out of reach.

Please hold your strife.
And listen as I preach.

What I am about to tell you.
You shouldnt be in shock.

The opposite is blue.
Do you feel in luck?

Happy is the secret.
Obtainable by all.

Yet we all still feel weaken
It's so hard to stand tall.

Happy hippy nurse

Happy: feelings of pleasure or delight (dictionary.com)
Hippie: a person who embraces life to the fullest (urban dictionary)
Nurse: someone trained to care for the sick ( Webster dictionary)

Yes it's true I'm a nurse! And yes it's true I have been trained to care for the sick. But I believe true nursing is in prevention and making and keeping our bodies well. So a lot of what I post will help to keep you healthy or help you to maintain your level of sickness... uhhh I mean wellness.



I love life and love to live in the moment. I'm not afraid to try new and unusual things. I also consider my self a simple kinda girl. I don't need a lot to make me happy!

Pagan vs biblical meditation

The reason for this post is... I said something about meditation to a friend of mine who is very religious. She commented back to me "be careful can be a pagan ritual". Huh?!? I was flabbergasted by this. I have never heard such a thing.. So of coarse I had to research the shit out of it to find out what she was talking about....

What is pagan? Google tells me a pagan is a person who's holds religious beliefs other than the main world beliefs, or un godly beliefs.

What is paganism? Can be thought of as Wiccan or devil worship.

So how is meditation paganism??? I did a Google search of meditate and the first think to pop up was paganspath.com a meditation guide.... WHAT?!? Go there read it... This is what most of us think about meditation. Quite place. Sitting comfortable. Empting our minds of all thoughts. Hmmmm see the ritualness of this?? Yoga, it-chi, chakras, gazing, mantras.... All pagan (wow) my eyes have been opened.

So I remembered what my friend said... "CAN BE" so I thought meditation can not be pagan as well. Meaning meditation can be biblical. So I searched meditation in the bible and found many many scriptures about meditation. Meditation in the bible most verses I found say to meditate on the law or meditate on the word.... Me being the person I am and having to understand everything. Wanted to know more.

I found this video that explains what biblical meditation or Hagah means. He explains how meditation should be done and all the steps to properly meditate. If you have ever meditated and are religious you should watch this video. It is kinda long at 25 minutes. Definitely opened my eyes. Meditation is not sitting being quite doing nothing! I like what he says about pleasurable diversion or amusement.... That is a whole other can of worms!

Shoes

So I sometimes get asked why are you a hippy?

I don't know if I'm really a hippie... There I said it! I mean what is a hippy really? Someone who is weird... Some one who is not like you... What do you think of when you think of hippy???? Most people think of someone who has long un clean hair....
NOT TRUE....
Ok so what about the way you dress. Well I am normal jeans and shirt kinda girl. I do like to wear dresses sometimes but not all the time.

Ok so what about being bare foot all the time. Wellllll..... I love being bare footed!!! Hate shoes! Love socks! I know weird. Who doesn't love to take their shoes off and walk thru the grass???


As for the socks business, I love new socks. I love how they feel. If I could spoil myself on one thing I would buy new sock everyday for the rest of my life.

So if I could pinpoint one thing that "makes me a hippy" it would be my positive outlook on life... I love love! I love being peaceful and making people happy!

 I think this is really what makes me the hippy I am! Send me a message, comment, message in a bottle of what makes you a hippy? We all have a little hippy in us.

Circadian rhythm (internal clock)

What is this Circadian rhythm stuff….

WELL…Circadian rhythm is your body’s internal 24 hour clock. This clock responds to light and dark stimuli. The circadian rhythm is essentially your master clock that affects your physical, mental, and behavioral changes in your body. The master clock in the body controls the production of melatonin (hormone that makes you sleepy). Melatonin is released in accordance to the amount of light that enters the eyes.

Circadian rhythms can be “out of whack” due to people working night shift, people using screen devices before bed, use of stimulants (coffee, pills, or exercise) before bed, not enough sunlight first thing in the morning, time change, pregnancy, and medications.

Lack of sleep can cause a decrease in mental performance, increase the severity of diabetes hypertension, obesity, and memory loss, and speed up the aging process. Higher events of mental illness like depression and bipolar are more prominent. When you clock is off your eating patterns can be affected.

How to reset your circadian rhythm:

·         Do not use computers, TV, cellphones before bed

·         Use soft blue or red lights as night lights

·         Exercise daily

·         Enjoy outdoor activities

·         Avoid caffeine

·         Try to keep your sleep/wake schedule the same

·         Go to bed on an empty stomach

·         Fill your mind with positive thoughts so you don’t dwell on your problems

·         A relationship with God can refresh your spirit, and promote a Sabbath day of rest

cholestrol

Well I'm back after some sort of a hiatus. I have been buys with school and work. but man I have missed you guys.

While I was gone I was present with a question that I was not sure how to answer.... cholesterol how do you get it? well I don't.... so I wanted to know why I needed cholesterol. Cholesterol is important for the reproductive hormones that women need to ovulate and make babies. WOW, I did not know that. Cholesterol is a wax like substance that is normal for cellular structure and function. The body packages cholesterol in to low-density lipoprotein and high-density lipoprotein.
LDL has higher concentration of fat to protein. LDL is considered the bad cholesterol. LDL is the type of cholesterol that is responsible for promoting heart disease. LDL is also responsible for helping to provide building blocks for cells surface membranes in the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves.  So they can adapt to temperature changes. cholesterol also aids in digestion by producing hormones and vitamins.  

HDL have a higher concentration of protein to fat. HDL is considered the good cholesterol. HDL scrubs away extra bad cholesterol in order to prevent heart disease.

So with all this said. it sounds to me like we need cholesterol.... my last post I said cholesterol is only derived from animals and we should not eat animals.... I stand by that statement and here is why.

Our bodies need cholesterol so much that our bodies can produce its own cholesterol. The Brain is able to produce the amount of cholesterol the body need to fulfill its needs. Yeah still no meat!

Water

Water....


What have you heard about water? drink more, drink bottled, or drink alkaline. Well I'm gonna tell you what I know about water.

1. Dink more- studies show those who drink 8-10 glasses of water a day lose more weight, are healthier, and have healthier skin.
How is this you say?
-Drinking water (two 8 oz glasses) 20-30 before a meat eat 75% few calories
-Lack of water can cause dehydration which can cause alterations in blood pressure, blood sugar, and the fats in your blood stream. chronic lack of water causes kidneys to fail.
-When you are hydrated, your skin is moist and cool.

2. Drink bottled water-some companies use tap water anyways, so know your brands.

3.Alkaline water- it is only alkaline because the pH level is altered to meet the need of your body... guess what? your body does it better anyway! its just a hype to get you to spend more money on water.

Moral of the story. drink your water anyway you can get it.
